how and why did the event occur
september 1st 1939 germany invaded poland starting war with many countries. december 7th 1941 pearl harbor is bombed bringing the us into the war. in europe axis soldiers were captured then taken to england. pow camps soon the camps became full the us allowed 50000 pows at first. the pows were put into camps all over the us over 500 of them 16 in Minnesota. pows kept coming and years later there were over 400000 of them

seeing this was world war two the entire world was involved. including the us us december 8th congress declared war because of the bombing of pear harbor. from 1940-1946 pows were kept in 500 camps all over the us including Minnesota having 16 of them. they were also in England and other places around the globe. what was the time period like when the event occurred
for the first time in the us there was rationing each family received the right per week to purchase four ounces of butter,four pounds of cheese and twenty eight ounces of meat. ironically farms produced more the ever. spare car parts were rare and a new car was unheard of. the reason for this was because no non military cars or trucks were to be made during the war. a slogan was "use it up, were it out, or do without". considering the depression and that people were starving in europe these were considered honorable privileges.

adolph hitler started the war and he had an army to do it. Japanese pilots bombed pearl harbor. the soldiers forces that captured the pows in the first place and of corse the pows they were the reason the us built the camps. us citizens helped out in war efforts and president rosevelt. the pows also helped out with the uses loss of manpower.
what did pepole think of the event
most of the world was involved with world war 2 and many were affected years after the war. by 1945 half the us work force was involved in production. more then 5000000 died world wide. there were battles on every content accept north America. an atomic bomb was dropped and warfare would never be the same. yet to this day many still don't know that there were prisoner of war camps in minnesota or even at all in the us.
how did the event end
the Japanese surrendered august 14 1945 due to two atomic bombs dropped by the us. in the end there were 417034 pows all over the US 362170 germans, 49784 italian and 5080 Japanese. many people did not want the pows to leave because they could rebel upon return and it would be a loss of man power.but the camps were low on food supplies and some pows were taking the jobs that returning us soldiers could have taken. it was decided to bring them back altho it did take a few years to do it.
what was the end result of the event
even years after the war hunger and poverty still stalked the land. prices were very high and wages vary low. upon one pow said "it was great surprise tome when i arrived in france instead of going home i was sent to the coal mines". it was only after three long years that he was finally returned home. this was the reason many pows did not want to return home
how is the event REMEMBERED today
world war 2 was a vary important event in history and there are memorials for the soldiers who died. the first and second nukes were dropped and warfare would never be the same. in fact most historians think that world war 2 was the most destructive event in history. many do not take note to the fact that there were prisoner of war camps all over the us. even more people don't know that there were 16 pow camps in Minnesota.
